Zero chance this will be $250 it’s more powerful than the steam deck.

Makes sense, this article has a section that does a good job explaining it: https://www.linuxnest.com/what-is-an-immutable-distro/

I think the atomic part actually means the updates are not applied until restarting the system.
They probably don’t even read what the message has to say. When I’ve helped some family members with their computer I’ve seen something important pop up and they just closed it immediately. I asked what did that message say and they said “I don’t know I just closed it.” :/
This might have been what it was as you mentioned git reflog. I don’t remember clearly since I’m usually pretty good at not making this mistake.
I’ve even recovered from deleting local changes I forgot how but there is a way! (It’s not something to rely on but can help in a pinch!)

Well that was the whole point behind steam OS and proton. If valve did not work on those things then it was a much bigger possibility.

They probably wouldn’t block but force companies (valve included) to pay a cut of the revenue by forcing people through the Microsoft store. See Windows S mode.

I wish I could just turn it off because clearly it doesn’t respect my choice.
They said they are shooting for less than the price of the index so that’s $999 or less, not sure if they will reneg on that due to ram prices.
