Oh yeah, I know that’s not what they were going for but… like I said, “that guy”.

I was gonna downvote this as generic boomer humor, but then I remembered that one xkcd survey…
I weep for my gender.
I know this totally makes me “that guy”, but it could very well be a signed first edition of a specific translation of the Iliad.
I don’t think I know anyone who cares that much about a translator’s signature, but who knows?

The totally unnecessary response kinda kills this.
“Wanna see me turn a dozen lines of imperative code into a single expression?”
“Wanna see me do it again?”
So… leftists are aware of their own issues and take responsibility by not unnecessarily endangering themselves and others?
Not the hit piece you think it is.
This. I’ve been writing some game mods in it recently and LINQ is… pretty nice.
switchexpressions, too. This is coming from a dude formerly from the “OOP Boilerplater” camp, though, so maybe I just have low standards.
Yeah, I’m kinda confused by that one too—Computerphile is CS theory, not software engineering.
The best part of this is that some of them are true.
Friendly reminder to keep your pet micropanther indoors so they don’t devastate the local ecosystem by being a hyperpredator.
My favorite (paraphrased):
Attorney: “You are absolutely certain that [victim] is dead?”
Coroner: “Yes.”
Attorney: “Were you there at the time of death?”
Coroner: “No.”
Attorney: “Then how can you be sure they’re dead?”
Coroner: “Well, their brain is sitting in a jar on my desk, but I suppose the rest of them could be out practicing law somewhere.”

Windows actually migrated to the NT kernel when XP launched - AFAIK, ME was a dead end.
Looks to me like the reader (the Linux user) is identifying with the subject of the image, which would appear to put them in a sympathetic light.
Can we avoid using the space tourists for memes?
Unless we’re ridiculing them, obvs.

1·9 months agoMore devs should learn to use Rational types. A pretty large majority of the numbers that people care about in real life can easily be represented by a ratio of integers, and they allow math with perfect precision.
eta: even monetary types are just a form of Rational, with the denominators clamped to powers of ten

I’m quoting the source, my friend.
