Dozens of Microsoft employees occupied the company’s east campus in Redmond, Washington to protest against what they say is the use of its software by the Israeli military to carry out operations in Gaza and enable the surveillance of Palestinians.

Actually, occupying the East Campus is… something of a feat.

I’ve not been there in a while, they’ve since modernized it… I guess they finally got rid of the old X wing buildings from the old days, hah!

      God those buildings sucked.

Uh but yeah if this new East Campus is anything like other major MSFT campus constructions, the place is a locked down, corporate campus, with security id checks and a private security force, got a high priority line to local, regional PDs, etc.

Also, these people are all 100% guaranteed to be fired and blacklisted from every major tech firm for the rest of their lives… the vast majority of full employees at MSFT are self serving corpos to the core… so yeah it is kind of notable that you’d even get any…

…and also, the vast majority of any kind of ‘employees’, at any MSFT campus, are temp contractors of some kind… and a whole lotta them are on some kind of foreign work permit/visa, meaning that if they did something like this protest?

Fired, detained/deported by ICE, basically immediately.

Yeah, we already live in the cyberpunk dystopia.

I do agree, but also there are a lot of naive people who think that they won’t get fired (in America of all places), so maybe they are just naive.

I mean, this exact thing already happened and somehow it was “news” when they were fired.

the Guardian and Israel’s +972 Magazine revealed Israel’s military surveillance agency, Unit 8200, was making use of Azure to store countless recordings of mobile phone calls made by Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza.

I mean… I don’t think denying Israel access to Azure is going to have much effect on the genocide. It’s not like they don’t have plenty of alternatives.
