  • The slowly boiling pot.

I’ve never used Windows as my main machine, but even before WINE/Proton were as mature as they are now, I never did personal or important work on my Windows installation. It might seem silly to care that Windows was sending back system specs in Win98(or earlier?), but it did it without asking or even informing. It was just such a huge sign of disrespect to the end user and Microsoft has only doubled down on that disrespect for the end user.

  • The Nazis are always mad at any change. Just because they’re angry, doesn’t mean the change is good. Unfortunately, now what should be a discussion about the sterilization of all branding now got wrapped up in the culture wars. If McDonald’s had waited until now to disappear the Ronald McDonald mascot, the Nazis would be complaining about that too.

And yet people will still treat you like a naive kid if you deviate from the norm too much.

It took me years before realizing I needed to change how I ask questions to college admissions. I did 15 years of compulsory education for nothing because I was held to a lower standard then I even tested for. Being railroaded into CC because of that was not something I was willing to do when I finally got legal agency.

Despite making it very clear that I would rather redo 4 years of high school then do 2 years of college, no one suggested I just redo the CC classes at a 4 year. I had to be in a particularly undiplomatic mood to insist that I was asking a policy question, not a life advice question when I inquired if it was possible to redo classes I already got credits for.

That was also in the Bruce Timm animated series. The first crossover with Joker teaming up with Lex where he stole a “Jade” dragon statue that supposedly killed it’s owners with a curse was actually made of Kryptonite and later in Justice League Unlimited had Lex diagnosed with cancer I think. Kryptonite has always been hazardous to humans.
