  • 95/98 was another operating system, though. Windows 98 ME (forgot about that one) was the last OS in the original Windows series– that Windows that was basically just a graphic shell for DOS.

IIRC, XP was the 5th version of Microsoft’s fork of OS/2. OS/2 was rebranded as Microsoft NT in its 3^rd version due to the success of the brand Windows and the failure of OS/2 despite OS/2 having been the superior OS.

  • There is no such thing as a generic installer for all linux distributions. Distributions differ, and you cannot assume that an install script that works for distribution X will work on distribution Y. And that’s exactly why linux is almost unusable without a package manager – you’d have to manage dependency hell, install paths, configuration and uninstalling process on your own.

By the way, software repos are not maintained by the authors of projects, they are maintained by the distributors.

Furthermore, piping a downloaded script into sh is such terrible practice, that everyone who offers this idea is either a malicious actor or utter ignorant of any basic security practice – you wouldn’t want software from either.

  • That’s a terrible ineffective method, and a waste of water.

Fill one sink with hot water + soup, put as much dishes in it as possible to soak them, and fill the other sink with fresh hot water. Clean one dish after another, preferably with a brush (you’ll burn your hands using a sponge), rinse them in the clean water, and put them on the dryer.

If you do not have a second sink, use a tub for either purpose.

And yes, the water will get dirty and cool over time, and you’ll have to switch if you’ve got too much dishes.

Of course, if you’re only cleaning a plate and a knife and perhaos a glas, using just the tap is far more efficient.
