Tech@programming.dev•Nearly 90% of Windows Games now run on Linux, latest data shows — as Windows 10 dies, gaming on Linux is more viable than ever
1·3 months agoWell I personally do run a business out of my home, and I take security very seriously.
I’m not selling anything, I’m explaining the importance of keeping your operating system up to date.
Email phishing attacks often target OS exploits, there’s two Windows 10 zero days that just came out which allow code to run with elevated permissions without user authorization. That’s the sort of thing that enables a piece of malware compromise your entire system.

7·3 months agoBackups are important, but it’s also important to have a secure OS; they can do a lot more than delete your data, you can have your session keys stolen, your accounts compromised, and your files used for blackmail.
I guess if you don’t use the computer for anything except games, and you backup your saves, then you can treat the machine like a toy and let it get owned, factory reset when you want to use is again; but even then, you’d be letting the attacker into your network.
I really can’t imagine a situation where it’s better than just using Mint, which is more reliable and secure than any version of Windows could ever dream of being.

54·3 months agoThird time’s a charm.
It’s wild to me how difficult switching can be when so many devices come with Linux and people don’t even think about it.
The Steamdeck is more stable than any windows gaming PC I’ve had; Android phones are rock solid, less prone to issues than a PC; Chromebooks work forever without getting malware, and receive updates for more than a decade; but try to DIY it and you’re in the fire swamp of driver issues.
Have you tried Mint? It usually just works. Atomic distros are also looking pretty promising, they’re so stable and recoverable.

123·3 months agoSure, they’re just venting, but I just wanna talk about Linux all day. I’ll listen to their problems, treat them with respect and understanding, but you better believe I will also squeeze in a little special interest sauce on my side of the conversation sandwich.
I think it has more to do with my sense of humor than my opinions. Some people can’t laugh at things they find objectionable. Some people struggle to find humor in certain situations.
Funny is not an intrinsic property of a bit, it’s subjective. There are people who hardly laugh at anything. Funny is in the laugh of the beholder.
That is emphatically not what I said.
I was just sharing my experience since it informed the way I interpreted the joke. I think it makes sense for her to talk about using a vibrator with partners since that’s probably something she has experienced.
Casting this joke as ‘male feelings being ridiculed’ is so strange. She’s talking about her own feelings, making light of the expectations her partners have set.
It’s not bigoted or mean spirited. The joke is fine.
No, but it is kinda funny. Maybe it’s not to your taste, humor is pretty subjective.
If the guy has trouble reaching orgasm, sure. But in most straight relationships I’m familiar with it tends to go the other way, where the female partner needs more help to finish.
An e-bike wouldn’t do much for Jonas Vingegaard, but it can be a game changer for someone who struggles with gentle hills.
It’s funny because some guys get mad about a woman using a vibrator, but would be thrilled to give LeBron an assist.
They have no problem being cooperative in some settings, but in the bedroom feel like it’s a solo performance.
It’s especially funny because sex, of all things, is basically defined by the cooperative nature; you aren’t there to win points, you’re just trying to have a good time.
So in summary, it’s funny because it reverses expectations; the imaginary partner like cooperating in a competitive scenario, but gets competitive in a cooperative one.
If you have a supercharger in your engine, are you mad that it produces more horsepower than you do, or are you just happy to go fast?
The only people I’ve seen calling for less political violence have also denounced the violence in Palestine. Some people are just anti-violence, there’s no hypocrisy in that.
You just linked to an account, and their most recent video is from January.
We’re just talking about the filename, the exact creation time is tracked by the OS. Plus I’d imagine most documents also have a time and date inside. The file name is mostly for sorting and human readability.
It’s just a filename, calm down. The created by date is tracked by the file system and the repo.
The exact date of creation is usually preserved in the filesystem, we’re just talking about what to name the documents themselves. The filename should be short and to the point, it gets truncated if it’s too long, and on windows you only have 260 characters for the entire path to the file plus the name.
Here you go gramps:
(shortD) => { return parseInt(shortD.slice(0, 2), 10) > 50 ? "19" + shortD : "20"+shortD; }
