9·25 days agoso I’ve used it a few times, but it absolutely chokes on 4K footage on my rig. I think maybe the lack of hardware acceleration for pre rendering?
I have a big project coming up and I’m considering downscaling all the source files, editing, and then slipping in the real files when I’m done. Is that a thing people do?
I started mainlining Linux about a year and a half ago after playing with it for a bit in 2007-ish and running a headless server for a decade or so.
I just installed Ubuntu because that was what Framework officially supported. I can’t think of what a newbie user would find lacking with Ubuntu. It does about everything that Windows does fine. I’ve heard similar things about Mint. Why do we have to over-complicate things for new users? Just shove them towards a distro and let them know they can probably fix whatever they don’t like with a reinstall later.
Proceeds to use it exclusively for browsing the web.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•This happens almost every day now. That "Agentic OS" plan is going juuust fine.
78·2 months agoI had to boot my Windows 10 partition up yesterday. It made me click through fucking six ads for Microsoft 365 and win11 and then said “you’re done!” with a little cartoon of an athlete with a trophy as if just booting the OS was a challenge that I overcame.

Funny that you never hear anything from the quiet vegans.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Its actually because I'm a noob 😓
12·2 months agoTrust me, there’s someone just starting out, and you got them 90% of the way there, and they will humbly submit a fix for your code with zero judgement.
That someone is me, because I have no idea what I’m doing.
Excuse me. I’ve almost bricked several machines with Ubuntu.

That happens from time to time. Hell, I’ve even had that happen two weeks ago with Newegg for a rare cable I needed.
Still though, on the whole, you can get in touch with some real brick and mortar style sellers, and often times it’s cheaper. I saved like $20 on a pack of water filters for my fridge recently.
Use eBay.
I needed 7/16" ink ribbon for my antique Burroughs adding machine. Bought it on eBay. Order was fulfilled by Ribbons Unlimited, a small business that just sells ink ribbons for typewriters. Took a week to get it, but I wasn’t in that much of a hurry.
Because as the wikipedia quote illustrates, the uncanny feeling of the matrix is a metaphor for gender dysphoria. Taking the red pill helps you transition to your true self.
So if we strictly apply that to Switch, the Matrix assigned them as female when their true identity is male.

I don’t get it…
