Ubuntu is a Debian distro too. Either way mint is a Debian distro.

I’ve been recommending it as the beginner’s distro for years. Default DE is very windows familiar, install is easy, out of box experience is great, built on Debian so it’s stable as fuck. There’s nothing really wrong with it unless you need newer drivers or something

Linux@programming.dev•I replaced Windows with Linux and everything’s going great
2·28 days agoI don’t know why, one laptop I tried years ago to use linux on had issues with so many distros. Mint the touch pad didn’t work, debian the wifi, manjaro the screen was funky. But one worked pergectly fine, Parrot, another debian distro which was weird because debian and mint didn’t work. And all the isos were current builds
I’ve seen an SD card used before.

151·3 months agoYea, so this whole argument falls apart with all the easy beginner distros. They’re out of the box easy to use and require minimal computer skills beyond knowing your password, how to use a mouse, and how to use a keyboard. Drivers may not be perfect for everything like your gpu, but if you’re using a GPU you probably have enough vomputer skills to google why the driver ism’t working.
I did put higher and lesser beings in quotes for a reason. I am not assuming that humans are better than crows.
I have never been a good speller, and this app nor my phones keyboard do spellchecking.
I mean, spellings of words change all the time. Hell, when I was in school you’d lose points on papers for spelling “doughnut” as “donut”, but now that shorter version is concidered a correct spelling and is no longer tagged by spell check.
We as a society can literally will this spelling to be concidered correct through shear usage.
On the old site, there was an ask reddit question along the lines of “Whats the moat unbelieveable thing thats ever happened to you?”
Some user commented about how while they were out walking outside a taco bell, a crow came up to them, placed a quarter down and said “taco”. So the person went and grabbed the bird a taco.
So, yeah, this does make sense. If some “lesser being” shows strong intelegence, it makes sense that a “higher being” would just do whats asked of them for the story or just rewarding them for being smart.
It’s also a disproportionate response. “British people talk funny” gets “American school children are regularly shot at school, lol tragedy”.

82·5 months agoAs a simple terminal editor with no bells and whistles it works great, I used it a lot at my last job when I had to make a small tweek on a program that was loaded on the “build server”.
It’s simple, easy to use, and doesn"t fight you.
Yeah and in linux when you say “kill this process” that process fucking dies. No 10 minutes of windows trying to negotiating with a crashed program to close. No I’m not angry about this happening to me at work today, why do you ask?
