I recently received a question along the lines of “Hey do you remember [project we did roughly 18 months ago]? What firmware version did we use on the controller?”

1·1 month agoSo it’s just like any other update through Discover? Or do I need to download the new release ISO and update it old school?

5·1 month agoI’m a very recent convert, what’s the upgrade process like on Fedora? Is it just like any other system update or is it better to do a fresh install

Linux@programming.dev•I made the switch last night and am still a bit shocked at how well it went
3·2 months agoI was doubtful I’d ever install this on a family member’s PC but all the normal stuff just worked

3·2 months agoI do and used it professionally so I’ve hard a hard time getting into GIMP. Haven’t tried it with the keyboard shortcut update, thought
It was a pretty well-specced machine when I built it but it’s not too new. Intel i7-13700k 13th gen, gtx 5080 (added way later obviously), 64gb DDR5, 2x wd black NVMEs

3·2 months agoEVERYTHING feels like 100ms+ delay on Windows nowadays. There’s even a delay opening the start menu (because apparently it’s HTML5 in a wrapper now??)

2·2 months agoI wish I could tell you why I settled on it. I know Ubuntu got vetoed because of the slow release cycle but I can’t remember what crime Mint committed

1·2 months agoI didn’t think Linux had HDR for some reason so it was a pleasant surprise to see it at all! I’ll probably just wait for officially releases until I run into problems

9·2 months agoAha, that works too! I’ll edit the post to suggest this to future readers

3·2 months agoThe partition thing was part of the installer. I used the suggested partitions and when that didn’t work, tried resizing the suggested partitions. When that didn’t work (can’t resize an efi partition apparently), I made the partitions myself and it was the same thing.
I was already a bit annoyed by the aspect ratio and needing to access a hidden menu to boot with an Nvidia card so I stopped trying after that.
I might install those just for fun but I’m pretty happy with the default plasma dark theme!

13·2 months agoThe thing that really blew me away wasn’t just the ease but the SPEED of it. Can’t believe I had a functional operating system in under 10 minutes. I swear it took an hour just to get to the desktop on my last Windows install.

4·2 months agoGood to know! I will likely stick to this for now, my mouse is on its last legs and it’ll be the last trash Corsair peripheral I ever own. I’m getting a free Logitech MX Master 3s (confirmed Linux support) from work and plan to replace the keyboard and headset next year anyway.

8·2 months agoThere’s a few things I expect to run into (I’m still beholden to a lot of windows software for now) but the most important stuff is behind me!
That’s my friend’s parents. They get little budgies and keep them in the worst cages which means they only get the worst parts of pet ownership
Perhaps “cage” was the wrong word - I meant pets I have to corral to a specific location…but I would prevent my cat from going outside so maybe that’s not it either lol
So I guess it’s just back to my original point: I find the space and care accomodations required for birds to be much too inconvenient

I feel that. I’m on the design side and have nothing to do with software…once my engineering package (drawings, hardware documentation, etc) is delivered, it’s on the shop to program and configure. I wouldn’t have known the firmware version even if this was a 2026 project!
