I guess there’s absolutely no reason to allow ICE into your establishment, then. They should have thought about this beforehand.

In California it’s 187.
And now I gotta listen to sublime
This just sounds like a normal zoo from the animals’ perspective.

Memes@lemmy.ml•Management lingo irritates me the most actually
7·2 months agoGood management is just good people skills. If you don’t have them, intentionally defanging your speech/correspondence helps prevent blowups. Unfortunately for people working under managers with bad people skills, this doesn’t actually make up for and mostly just highlights their managers’ deficits.
Tl;dr: management speak is intentionally harmless in and of itself, but is an obvious symptom of bad management.
I can’t tell if H is a troll or just really stupid (or both). She and I clash about several subjects and she does sometimes straight antagonize the rest of us, but she’s also weirdly ill-informed about a lot of things and 67 years old. A lot of the antagonism seems to stem from her expecting everyone to defer to her because of her age, but because she’s not very smart, she orders us to do things that don’t make sense, then gets annoyed when we don’t.
I mostly just try to ignore her and don’t accept any food from her unless it’s prepackaged and I know what it is.
Yeast is a fungus, honey is made by bees. I used to be pretty neutral about honey, but we don’t adequately protect bees from the cold and other perils when we keep them.
It’s pretty concerning, you’re right. I actually wrote a list of things that are vegan and vegetarian to keep in the back because some of my coworkers would give random answers when people asked about them (and we for some reason have chicken fat in our omelettes, so they seem vegetarian but aren’t).

Funny@sh.itjust.works•Well... I'm not a crosfitter... Yet...
381·2 months agoI work at a bakery and am vegan. Whenever we get a new cake or vegetarian sandwich, my coworkers ask me to try it. At least one of them, H, is always surprised to learn that dairy products are in fact made from milk.
On the other hand, one of my coworkers brought in sesame sweets made without dairy, eggs, or honey and H didn’t believe they were actually vegan and kept making jokes about my cheat day.
Both from good omens, I think
I don’t even believe in free will, I can’t talk shit to anyone
Regarding the first point, this is what he said, emphasis mine:
I want to be clear on where I stand. I believe both Nicolas Maduro and Miguel Diaz-Canel are dictators. Their administrations have stifled free and fair elections, jailed political opponents, and suppressed the free and fair press. And yet, our federal government’s long history of punitive policies toward both countries, including extrajudicial killings of Venezuelans and the continuation of a decades long blockade of Cuba, have only worsened these conditions. Democratic socialism is about dignity, justice and accountability. And above all, it’s about building a democracy that works for working people, not one that preys on them."
It feels misleading to call someone’s statement denouncing the blockade as an effective endorsement of it. Did I miss him saying something else?

Memes@lemmy.ml•What do you want to be when you grow up? USA vs UK vs China
8·3 months agoI wanted to be a naval pilot engineer at four. I’m colorblind, terrified of heights, not fond of authority, sloppy, and scatterbrained as hell. It’s quite possibly the worst possible job for me. To be fair, part of the reason was that I hated the word “bellybutton” and thought anyone who said ”navel” instead had the right idea, so it’s not like I really understood that part of it.

5·4 months agoThey’re talking about health insurance, water safety, and education. I’m not a fan of the Democratic Party, but these aren’t things like whether the US gets chosen for the Olympics or something like that.
He had to hang a picture, but it was just there to indicate adulthood
Plus, it’s not obvious to even otherwise capable people how best to use one. My BIL is a generally pretty smart guy, but my sister had to show him how to use a hammer after they got married (he wanted control of his swing and didn’t trust himself, so he was holding it right up against the head(
Could you milk them, Greg?
Fuck, I went back to read it after seeing your comment and expected it to say 2014.
Alright, you do you.
It was combative because the OC called the recipient unworthy and you replied that it was because they didn’t understand things that most people who can read at a third grade level do.
That’s messed up, and I was intending to point out that that’s the implication of your comment so you could rephrase it if it was unintended.
Some people don’t seek to understand, but this person’s asking multiple questions to figure out what this means, and then wants to talk verbally because they’re not getting it via text. I don’t see a reason to suspect they’re not looking to understand.

Fair enough, I don’t know what I’d do in the same place. My sister is a (white, American-born) restaurant manager in LA and she sends everyone to the back whenever ICE/border patrol has come by (at one point her restaurant was handing out bilingual cards listing your rights and a legal advice phone number, so they came several times to ask about them), then lets out 25 years of customer service frustration at them. My sister is a special case in meanness, but they’ve tucked their tails between their legs and left every time.
Obviously not every restaurant has a mean white lady who hates ICE, but it might be a good idea to hire one. Actually, I know a bunch of frustrated, furious white women who feel helpless right now and would love to do it. Maybe this is a matchmaking opportunity.
