MIT is an extremely weak license when it comes to defending free/libre rights; e.g. it allows proprietary forks. i.e. companies stealing the code, making their own bullshit corpo product and not even releasing the source code back
tech-savvy geek and queer disaster
(I also hate capitalism and have a general interest in social sciences)

Last I checked Ubuntu was not an unstable mess of a rolling release, but a distro people rely on for stability.
Their normal non-LTS versions are still considered production ready and acting that rash has only solidified my negative opinion of them more…

Have fun living under a rock like it’s the web 1.0. Maybe try running LibreJS and you might be as modern as RMS!

JavaScript is a normal requirement for modern web browsers?

Still completely unhinged to ship it in your distro before it’s fully compatible cough Ubuntu cough

This is my take as well. I’m extremely disappointed they only went with a temporarily open license instead of a proper one, but using MIT is unfortunately to be expected from the Rust ecosystem for whatever reason…

I found virtual box so much more confusing than virt manager TBH. Also there is GNOME boxes which is just a pleasure for spinning up quick uncomplicated VMs
Too much hassle, would never recommend that for beginners
TBH I don’t think I will ever even consider using Cosmic since they chose to do their own thing theme and ecosystem wise. Like on Gnome I have a massive ecosystem and GTK4, so that blends. On KDE I have a massive ecosystem and QT, so that blends. On Cinnamon I have a moderately sized ecosystem and GTK3, so that blends.
My Cosmic desktop would just be incoherent mess. Not only looks wise, but also in terms of having an experienced dev team and mature software. Maybe in five years I might consider it production ready and for actual use on my workstation, until then, I will just keep rolling my eyes at the literal “we remade everything in Rust” meme.
Also I don’t feel comfortable using software from a company that has shows extremely shitty behaviour towards upstream in the past.

Friendly reminder to use Bandcamp on Bandcamp Fridays when possible (they also sell merch without fees on those IIRC) and otherwise the Deezer Telegram bot or torrents or something
Soulseek with the Nicotine+ client is also a great option
Windows is notorious for wiping Linux parts off a shared drive

I think it’s some delusion about fooling “the big AI” while not understanding how LLMs actually work and “learn”

Aren’t only some kernel modules OSS from nvidia, with the rest staying proprietary?

It’s bloated with Canonical BS, from their custom extensions (which break touch on Wayland) and Snaps obviously

Is this not what semver is for? Like making consumers aware that there are breaking changes…

Yo can we please not use this com for memes, but discussion? Yk that linux_memes exists, right?
System76 spent their time spreading slander about Gnome and being shitty to upstream, just FYI
