Big factor behind his divorce, iirc.
That was a plot point in Cryptonomicon. And yeah the XFree86 docs mentioned it too…

I heard it stated as “always assume it’s in the least desirable state”. Unloaded can be dangerous too, like if you need it to be loaded. But that is an edge case.
He’s mentioned a couple times in ‘Cheers’ mostly in the context of useless fop rich asshole, so it still works.
Until “The Apprentice” he was pretty much synonymous with rich asshole always failing upward.

1·4 months agoYes, but you still have to ask why people aren’t using the bike lane. There’s usually a reason. Like the lane only lasts a block or there’s cars parked in it. Etc.

1·4 months agoThat’s not enough, if the lanes don’t connect to anything or they’re unsafe or incomplete. People not using something probably means there’s something broken about it.
Would you use a highway that didn’t go to your destination?
Yeah, actually. The proprietary drivers unfortunately.

I’m glad you’re here to tell me how my experience the last 30 years was. Thank you for enlightening me as to how my choices were wrong and how I was silently suffering.
I gamed on Debian. I was so wrong.
Bit of selection bias.
Car shops are full of cars that have problems. Why would you be at a shop if you didn’t? Same with forums.
News to me. I’m running GloriousEggroll with proton 10…
That really was not my experience. I didn’t game much. WoW mostly. Some StarCraft. Minecraft. Online games. Debian unstable worked fine and I don’t think I had to compile my own kernel (for gaming) at any point past 2005 or so.
I’ve always enjoyed the tinkering. My gaming habits pretty much grew up with WINE. DXVK was very exciting!
Never been a stranger to compiling my own kernel or mucking about with DLL overrides.
Consistent branding over multiple decades!

Watched it. Good recommendation.
