I used to know a pathologist who would get called in on her days off to do autopsies sometimes. She didn’t laugh at my jokes about patients who really ought to lie down, chill, and wait until Monday.

I still can’t get over the fact that there’s just no way to prevent Windows 11 home edition from ever rebooting automatically.

That sort of evolutionary-biology approach can explain why men are all attracted to women of the same age, but it fails to explain why women aren’t all attracted to men of the same age. Even if women don’t have to be as selective with regard to age because men’s fertility doesn’t decline the way that women’s does, there should still be an absolute ideal age at which a man is most capable of being a good mate.

I’m not saying I want a relationship with a twenty year old or that women older than that are categorically unattractive, but as far as looks alone go, when I started puberty at 11, I thought women around 20 were the best-looking. When I was 20, I thought women around 20 were the best looking. And now that I’m 40, I still think women around 20 are the best-looking. Maybe I’ll change my mind as I keep getting older but I doubt it. Having to accept this is simply part of having to accept the more general pattern of physical decline produced by aging - I don’t look bad and women my age don’t look bad, but both they and I don’t look as good as we used to.

Neither men nor women get better looking with age, so I’m not sure what the women are thinking.

The advantage of that last approach is that it has side effects and cannot therefore be optimized out by the compiler.

Oh I have a whole month left to change everything and turn my entire life around before my birthday. No doubt that will happen.

Bad decisions.

Now.

My life. Not where I wanted to be when turning 40.

I did a double-take too, but she’s wearing skin-colored shorts with a red stripe on them over tights.

Bing used to be better than Google for a time but it has gotten worse too to the point where I use Google again. Edge is, IMO, unfairly maligned. It’s a perfectly good browser, although Microsoft begging me to use it is quite annoying.

The curve for people who depend on the service seems wrong. I would expect a sharp drop as soon as the service goes out and then gradually a partial recovery as they find other things to do.

But the money is actually pretty good.

That’s what I’m saying.

Things that are numbers:

• a memory address
• the letter B
• an error encountered when trying to open a file
• the concept of being false, as opposed to being true

Things that are not numbers:

• this particular floating-point number

It’s to keep the exposed surface from drying out.

One day we might be able to create operators with three or maybe even four question marks. Imagine the possibilities!

I was at a picnic where a two-year-old girl holding a slice of pizza took a bite and then offered the slice to my dog so that he could have his turn taking a bite. (He had been giving her the hungry-puppy stare.) It’s a shame that there was no one ready to photograph the look on her face when my dog grabbed the whole slice out of her hands and ran off with it. That experience is going to be her supervillain origin story.

What gets me is when I’m not allowed to remove an external drive. Deleting a file can be delayed until later but here I am with a physical object that I need to detach from my computer and first I need to play hide and seek with the OS.

At least his own therapist has helped him express himself only a little unprofessionally.
