Flight crews cannot declare a passenger dead. Therefore it is a medical emergency until a qualified medical professional does so. A physician on board might do so, but that gets muddy real quick legally.

Also, the diversion for a likely dead person isn’t for the dead person, it’s for the family that would sue the airline for carrying on for however long to the destination. They’d argue whether or not the person might have had a chance had they diverted. So legally and financially an airline will try to get seriously ill or potentially dead people off the plane as soon as practical.

  • This movie got a lot of grief, but I liked it. It was simultaneously a let down and scary to see the alien. As far as aliens go, it’s a pretty boring generic biped. But the suspense and buildup to seeing it, and the way they presented the scene as the viewer seeing it recorded alongside terrified people was great. Nailed it.

Maybe the worst aspect of the movie was the beyond-the-grave prompts regarding water and baseball bats. Meh. But the rest was pretty good.

  • Those books from the latter half of the 1900s about how to deal with kids just sucked. They all had various ways of trying to force kids who were any other shaped peg but round into a round hole while making the parent(s) feel justified and right about it.

“How to make your child inconvenience you less and not diverge from societal conformity requirements”

We still have similar books today, but those are bought by parents who refuse to acknowledge their kid is different and want conformity for who knows what reason…personal prejudice, religion, personal failure because of the aforementioned, etc.

  • That doesn’t make premise of the original statement untrue. It’s pretty irrelevant that honeybees aren’t native because their mass pollination does make our food production work the way it does and there’s no way natives can do the job. You might as well just as effectively point out less humans would be better so we don’t need as many crops produced. You might be right, but you’re yelling at clouds.

As far as killing off too many insects in general is concerned, fuck yes that’s a problem. Our worries revolve around crops, but there’s a shitload of nature that still depends on natural pollinators and other insects to do all kinds of jobs. We kill them off and we’re screwed.

  • It’s completely F’d up. In the region I live in there are a lot of 3-lane highways (6 lanes total). People “cruise” in the #2 lane and treat it like the slow lane which forces faster traffic left and right around them in the #1 and #3 lanes sometimes going 5 under the limit, often confounded by a #1 lane camper going the speed limit or just a few over. Nobody obeys any sort of rule or has a clue they aren’t being the asshole. They refuse to keep right or yield to faster traffic.
